Anthoine Hubert a reminder of F1 danger as Charles Leclerc digs deep

That was a weekend, sad and so tragic.
That was certainly a significant part of the cloth of existence for most drivers and team members in the paddock, although I didn’t have the pleasure of fulfilling Anthoine Hubert who’d lost his entire life in the weekend. Not least the Arden team that he had been driving for.
Karun a winner at Spa that is sombre
Rather than forgetting F2 driver Juan Manuel Correa also who faces a lengthy recovery from leg injuries. Older drivers at the F1 paddock can associate to that continuing challenge.
Harm and death in sport’s name is very difficult to accept. The dilemma is that the base of our sport involves young people that are committed and highly competitive driving cars on the limitation, at demanding race tracks.
That is the thrill of spectating in addition to racing driving. It’s our goal of present, pushing machines and humans into the limit. Despite the attempts and investment in circuits and cars there remains rather high degree of risk.
We’ve become conditioned to drivers stepping out of smoldering wrecks it gets even more shocking if they don’t.
The cars have very strict regulations on design all around the driver’s body, together with crash testing and control of brakes that are flying and liquids. The challenge is that if they left them any more sturdy and so heavier the effect loads would be higher also.
Materials and production techniques and experience will continue to enhance the ethics of their survival cell inside price limitations and weight.
The world’s tracks fluctuate greatly in era and design, and particularly the circuits frequently need solutions topography accessible and to fit the distance. At Raidillon and also Eau Rouge the climb up the rock face is really a spectacular challenge, and the run-off includes the exit for its next and older pit lane on the right hand side of this downhill approach.
When’s the Italian GP on Sky?
The zone towards the best of Raidillon corner has been extended over time, however the steep incline means you constantly fly across the top rated unsighted and looking to the sky. The geography of this area does have a tendency to feed cars back towards the race trail. At the race, a vehicle spun the top of Raidillon on due to a puncture which others had to prevent, leaving them exposed to cars after.
I wonder if street-circuit style obstacles as we used to own at the high speed Blanchimont corner in Spa, would not enable the cars to slide away from risk and never hitting against the obstacles in sharp angles. And the absence of area will create less desire and more caution to control through at unabated speeds. But challenging corners will remain insecure and thrilling whatsoever. We can’t only race into lines.
Through all of the pain and pain arose Charles Leclerc for Ferrari.
His pole position lap restarts and his start ideal was silky smooth, and management improved. And at the closing stages with all the ever-relentless Lewis Hamilton pursuing him down he did not falter.
We’ve seen Leclerc drive after the passing of close buddies Jules Bianchi and his father and Anthoine Hubert today at international level in several times. He did thus, while taking at age 21 , and the mighty Ferrari team in his shoulders.
I understood he was likely to be good, but not this good. He is effectively as Sebastian Vettel fights to fit his pace and command already the team leader, and he is still improving fast. It times for Seb, and together with the events of this weekend and taking a look at himself and his own life and accomplishments, he should be mulling over all options.
Vettel gets the speed , but it is uncomfortable that it is over a year since he won a race, and that now and both Kimi Raikkonen Leclerc have won a race for Ferrari at the moment. But following his premature pit stop on lap 15 because he was at risk in an undercut with Mercedes, by later delaying Hamilton a couple of seconds before losing second place to him, it was a defining moment in Leclerc getting the breathing space to claim victory against the charging Hamilton.
Kimi was unfortunate into turn whilst connecting using Max Verstappen. In a lot of ways it was a Spa twist 1 incident at the race start. Kimi could have made a little more space on the inside in case, but he’d have had no opportunity to see the Red Bull in his lamps charging up both lanes .
Max recovered from a second poor start and was probably a little too impatient to repair that, introducing his wheel and wing into a really perilous position.
Also caught up was Daniel Ricciardo within his hitherto fast Renault, along with different contacts. Because following four breaking F1 races I feared we might be in for a continuous one, my heart stopped at this stage. We watched several notable overtakes and unwanted action although once again the DRS rear wing was too powerful.
How Red Bull introduction was shone on by Albon
Lando Norris has been robbed of a fantastic fifth place from unreliability. He navigated the very first corner very smartly and his pace was strong on a weekend where McLaren weren’t shining. I lost a third spot only eight corners pushing for McLaren due to unreliability, and it annoys me a little bit today. It is horrible to be redeemed to the previous lap after you’ve done the job and accepted the risks.
Steal Norris place and alex Albon did not make much ground in his Red Bull drive, but came to the end on soft tyres to overtake several. Timely, and well driven in his duel with Sergio Perez at the final stages, who had a fine race for Racing Point.
Hamilton extended his lead into 65 points with eight races to go. He had everyone’s measure on Sunday except Leclerc, who paired the greats such as Jim Clark and Michael Schumacher in wining his introduction GP at Spa that is powerful.
If you saw me out you may know I said that some of the barriers and security there are a bit’old school’. They may be made better, along with intensive analyses will be carried out by the FIA and make additional improvements. But we must keep the likes of Spa.
