The roller coaster that is online West Virginia sports continued over the last few weeks. Media reports on Wednesday, however, noted that FanDuel Sportsbook WV and DraftKings Sportsbook WV can go into the WV sports gambling market.
The report provided bettors at the state some much-needed fantastic news. If the platforms go into the marketplace, it would mark the first choice that is available cellular since BetLucky went defunct in March.
Back in April, three sports received approval to operate from the state:
It looks like two of these may enter the market soon.
Legal Sports Report mentioned on Wednesday next 14, the DraftKings could debut in WV. WV MetroNews reported FanDuel seems promising to launch next week.
“I can say we are getting really close,” nation lottery director John Myers informed WV MetroNews on Wednesday.
“Testing is performed on a single and ongoing on a different. I really don’t have a formal roll-out date ”
Myers said he believes that online betting must be accessible by Aug. 31, the beginning of college soccer in West Virginia. And not to mentionthe NFL season gets a week later.
Myers continued:
“We’ve wanted to see this up and running as much as anyone. I understand there’s some concern that it has taken some time but if you do something. We believe we are there.”
Soccer has become the most popular gaming season plus the market could have hurt. Missing the 2019 kickoff can be expensive in terms of earnings for WV casinos and the state.
On Aug. 16, Myers informed PlayWV that authorities were getting near final acceptance on some sports betting apps being examined. He said the Wire Act was an problem and analysts were working to comply with state regulations.
“There is not any holdup in the country side. The lottery has told them how a system has to be installed since 2018. Some of our management services suppliers originally provided a system which didn’t meet those requirements and the lottery denied approval of those based on the necessities of the Federal Wire Act.”
The national government appealed a judge’s opinion declaring that the Wire Act only applies to Sports gambling. It appears those issues have been worked through by the state.
Bettors in the Mountain State will be all set for the wagering windows to start. But many can have a wait and watch strategy.
As of now, there are 3 retail sportsbook selections for WV bettors as the match of the WVU football season systems.
The country has seen this situation play out earlier. A launching was rumored two weeks before, but that never came to fruition.
After the BetLucky app was shut down in March that came. Delaware North, the operator of Mardis Gras Sportsbook and Wheeling Island Sportsbook casinos, coupled with Miomni on the stage.
After a dispute between a third-party European software firm the operation unraveled. Miomni and delaware North are currently in court.
On Wednesday, Legal Sports Report detailed how things went sour in the partnership. Miomni is battling on 2 continents in court — in one lawsuit in the UK with EnterG and facing an alternative.
“A pricing dispute produced a rift between EnterG and Miomni that left DNG [Delaware North] with no option for sports gambling, effectively shuttering WV sports gambling at March,” the report notes.
“Miomni never got the intellectual property it sought, also EnterG all but disappeared from the radar. Now it is up to the courts to decide who’s to blame and parties own that pieces of this puzzle.”
Past the legal entanglement, the dissolution led to the shutdown of the Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island sportsbooks. That’s led betting market.
With the news of DraftKings and FanDuel’s arrival, that may change soon. Lots of West Virginia bettors will keep their fingers crossed.
