Frank Lampard claims Tammy Abraham could have gotten an opportunity in the Chelsea first-team this season, regardless of the transfer ban of the club.
Abraham took his tally at Wolves, which raised him goalscoring charts with a hat-trick in Saturday’s win.
Lampard thinks there is a lot more to come from the striker, also says the 21-year-old isn’t exceeding expectations, however.
“I had clear expectations , only the fact that I believed in him and trusted him,” explained the Chelsea boss.
“I know that a lot was made of the ban, providing young players possible chances, but I felt that the time was appropriate for Tammy to have his chance at this club anyway, due to the quality he has got.
“I am really delighted he’s his goals, I think there’s more to come. He. With his mentality I hope to see that.”
In terms of the chance of England missing on Abraham should he opt to play with Nigeria, Lampard said:”That is not a matter for me. Being leading goalscorer at this point put him himself.
“It’s just one for Gareth [Southgate]; I would hate to step on his toes. Nonetheless, it’s apparent Tammy will be wanted.”
Lampard is relishing the chance of Chelsea in the Champions League for the first time, having enjoyed plenty of good nights as a participant, and he plans to speak regarding the challenges of playing at the contest to his team.
“It differs in its own character,” said Lampard. “The major thing which I found as a player was your focus and attention levels, during every game, must be completely spot on.
“That’s not to say you can eliminate things in the Premier League however, the higher level of participant at the Champions League, different style of games can occasionally surprise you.
“The trouble for this match, Valencia are excellent about the counter-attack and may harm you in one second once you feel you’re controlling the sport. That focus throughout would be the primary point”
Lampard will face a supervisor in Albert Celades, who had been appointed following the shock last week as Valencia boss.
Valencia’s players have been known to be unhappy with the decision and there is talk that they won’t appear alongside Celades in the media conference of the club later on Monday.
“I am mindful of what’s happening but in the exact identical time it does not affect our approach,” said Lampard.
“We are going up against a group which has fantastic quality. What I will say is my experience of minutes like this, typically it gets the team tighter as players.
“Sometimes it can be a positive as much as a drawback about the pitch”
