What is the legacy, although they point the largest golf events in Europe? Why do they vanish from relevance shortly after being center of the golf globe?
All these are questions worth thinking about which Le Golf National plays host to the French Open for the first time since the beating victory over the United States of the continent .
One thing is for sure, that autumnal running of this national Open in Europe wont be as expansive as the French Opens that preceded the 2018 Ryder Cup.
The championship has been shifted by a prime place in the schedule in the end of June and is currently worth only #1.4m compared using the #5.6m handbag that was played for last year.
Make no mistake, there will be important golf on display. The scramble qualify for the Rush to Dubai finale and to keep cards is intensifying.
Along with the likes of Jamie Donaldson, Jose Maria Olazabal, Thomas Bjorn and Martin Kaymer incorporate some stardust.
But if Alex Noren won 15 weeks back he beat a field that included defending champion Tommy Fleetwood, Spanish giants Jon Rahm and Sergio Garcia, US celebrity Justin Thomas and Ryder Cup stalwart Ian Poulter.

Hence the portents arent good for Le Golf National, particularly at a time when their French Opens value has diminished.
The French Federation signed a 12-year deal that would have obtained them to 2022.
This arose together with the loss of host Alstom, but with conglomerate HNA the European Tour landed a deal for 2016. The agreement values 25m euros seemed to fasten the event standing.
But that deal fell through leaving this tournament to justify a place in the tour Rolex Series. So it sits in this October date, somewhat detached in the limelight it once commanded.

They also supply evidence that business reality leaves very little room for maintaining and nurturing that golf history.
