“You’ve got that right to play, whether you are No 1 or you are a captain’s pick, so my players will perform with. Anyone five games and I am not playing with, so someone’s got to out sometime.
“I only think, especially above, together with all the weather and the psychological distress or psychological discipline you will need to play 36 holes and 36 holes, I presume come singles you are tired.
“I only feel like if they can just have an afternoon somewhere or even a morning to sleep in or an afternoon to rest, I believe it just helps.”
Matthew has shipped out two of the three rookies from the first two matches, together with wildcard Bronte Law outside with Spain’s Carlota Ciganda and newcomer Celine Boutier along with Georgia Hall.
“We wanted to try and get as many rookies outside as we could the very first day, the first morning,” Matthew said. “It is just that is a very long hang-on if they wait to go any later.
“They are all wrapped up, prepared to move, so that I wished to get out them. I felt I liked Bronte [Law] champ at the bit to go.
“I really don’t find any weak links on our side. This was Bronte and Celine [Boutier] were in the initial two groups, actually, get them around the program and simply to get out them. I only feel that the more they have to hang about and wait the more nervous they’re likely to have.”
