The ECB says it is”bothered” after a fan reported alleged racist and homophobic abuse at the fourth Ashes Test at Old Trafford.
An England supporter says a group of guys were singing a racist song about Barbados-born fast bowler Jofra Archer.
He also said female lovers had been exposed to chants that were sexist, adding he’d seen abuse.
The supporter was also attending the match and published his complaints on networking. His version of events has been verified at a reply by at least one other fan on networking.
An ECB statement :”The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is extremely disturbed to hear a report has been made regarding anti-social behavior from a bunch of spectators during the fourth Specsavers Ashes Test match in Emirates Old Trafford.
“We’re working alongside Lancashire to understand the specifics of this case. ECB works together with First Class Counties to make sure that guidelines are set up at every place in order that watching a cricket match is enjoyable and secure .
“Venues are accountable for the stewarding performance at games but we have a number of measures in place to constantly improve standards, including contracting the Sports Ground Safety Authority (SGSA) to audit all venues, embracing the ICC’s anti-racism and discriminatory behaviour code, and working with Drink oblivious to support their alcohol control policy.
“While this is a relatively isolated episode there is absolutely no place for anti-social behavior within the sport and it’s vitally important that audiences feel able to return to report anti-social behaviour and feel secure in doing so.”
